Powerhouse Theater - Seeking Seasonal Production Manager - Powerhouse Theater

Powerhouse Theater seeks a Production Manager for the 2024 Powerhouse Season. Now in its 38th season, Vassar College partners with various artists and theater institutions to produce a summer season of new plays and musicals on its campus in Poughkeepsie, NY. Simultaneously, the Powerhouse Theater Training Program is in session, providing 40+ aspiring theater professionals a chance to immerse themselves in acting, directing and playwriting. Dates of employment are from mid-June-August 1, 2024. Salary, 3 meals/day and free on-campus housing provided. Exact start date to be mutually agreed upon between candidate and Powerhouse.



The Production Manager oversees all production aspects of the Powerhouse Season, which consists of 8-10 workshops and readings of works-in-process in the professional season and about 5 projects with the Training Program. As a place for new play development, production elements are primarily focused on lighting and sound, and to a lesser extent properties/furniture and costumes. There are no sets or fully produced pieces in the Powerhouse Season.



Production Manager responsibilities include:

- Manage and oversee Powerhouse production staff, which includes: Associate Production Manager (who primarily focuses on the Training Program productions), two Assistant Production Managers, Lighting Supervisor, Lighting Technician, Sound Supervisor, Sound Technician and two Training Program Stage Managers

- Liaise with partner artists and institutions to meet their plays where they are in their level of development, and understand how to best support these pieces with technical elements, with a recognition that each piece will have unique needs and desires.

- Create and implement a production calendar for the Powerhouse Season.

- Oversee all load-in/outs, technical rehearsals and performances across multiple venues.

- Lead all Production Meetings

- Ensure all Vassar College venues are utilized with care and restored to the condition they were received

- Ensure all equipment belonging to the Vassar College Drama Department is inventoried at the start and end of the Powerhouse Season and determine and source all additional equipment that needs to be rented/purchased or replaced.

- Track all production expenses.

- Other duties as assigned.



Production Manager Qualifications:

- Highly organized, has a pleasant, calm demeanor, a can-do attitude, thrives in a fast paced environment, has strong managerial skills, is hands-on, can navigate a multitude of personalities and has a strong sense of humor.

- Previous Production Management experience preferred, but a strong knowledge of technical theater and practices required.

- Ability and willingness to drive and a valid driver’s license

Salary: $97-$1,000/week
