SCHEDULE: Production Based Schedule will vary based on need. Will include nights,

weekends, and holidays.

PAY BASIS: Hourly

SALARY: $42.90 per Hour following CBA with IATSE Local 1 - 32 Week Minimum

REPORTS TO: Director of Production, Technical Production Manager (Maintenance,

Prep, Load In), Production Coordinator (During Performance Calls)

SUPERVISES: Assistant Master Technicians, IATSE Apprentice, Stagehands

THE POSITION:

The Master Technician is primarily responsible for the scheduling and leadership of all stagehands for crew calls on the New Victory Stage with a focus on supporting visiting artists with a can-do, adaptable attitude while fostering a respectful and safe work environment. They install and operate production equipment for all productions as directed. They will work closely with the New 42 Technical Production Manager on planning for upcoming crew calls and be the intermediary to the rest of the crew to follow through on completing all tasks assigned by Technical Production Manager and Production Coordinator. This position works under New 42’s CBA with IATSE Local 1.



PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Lead and supervise two assistants, apprentice, and extra crew members during load ins,

performances, and other stage activities.

● Foster a work environment that is safe and respectful; one that embodies the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

● With Technical Production Manager, determine crew needs for scheduled crew calls

● Schedule all stagehands including substitutes for all calls with emphasis on pairing

needed skills to the call, ie: electrics, carpentry, rigging etc....

● Maintain a call list of stagehands.

● Create accurate daily timesheets in accordance with Local 1 CBA for crew calls and

submit weekly for payroll processing.

● Coordinate installation and operation of physical production elements on the New Victory Stage.

● Oversee house maintenance, specifically house lighting and seating.

● Act as departmental representative during all scheduled maintenance crew calls.

● Maintain production equipment and supply inventories.

● Propose and implement ongoing equipment maintenance and improvements.

● As directed, create and update departmental maintenance records.

● With Technical Production Manager, plan and implement prep for upcoming load in’s.

● Perform other departmental duties as required.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

● 2 – 3 years professional experience in similar leadership position in similar work situation

● Demonstrated experience advancing the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and

belonging in all aspects of backstage work or any workplace environment.

● Computer literacy; Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Windows

● Working knowledge of technical production systems; theatrical rigging, chain hoist and truss rigging, carpentry, lighting, audio signal flow/install, basic video install/signal flow.

● Demonstrated expert level knowledge of one of at least one area above.

● Strong communication skills working with management, supervisors and colleagues as an intermediary to achieve project goals.

● Ability to multitask and re-prioritize with accuracy around the needs of multiple projects.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

● Previous IATSE supervision experience.

● Familiarity with Lightwright and Vectorworks Viewer.

● Experience prepping shows for quick changeovers.

● Basic knowledge of Networked ETC Lighting Systems, ETC EOS Lighting Consoles,

Midas and Yamaha Audio Consoles

● Experience working with multiple artforms (theater, dance, circus, etc).

ACCESSIBILITY NEEDS:

This position must be able to carry 50lbs individually, or heavier as part of a group lift. There will be work at height on genie lifts, ladders, or catwalks and there needs to be comfort working in low lighting situations where scenic elements move positions through a show. The position requires night and weekend work and the schedule changes week to week based on the production load in/tech/performance schedule.
