BASIC CREW - PROPS - Manhattan Theatre Club

Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a dedicated and responsible Basic Crew member for a seasonal position at NY City Center Stage I. This person will be responsible for running and providing technical support for two to three productions each season as well as special events in the space.

Founded in 1970, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC typically produces eight plays annually in Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off-Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting the Production Carpenter and Prop Department during load in and strike for each production

• Supporting the shows through the technical rehearsal process, running deck track for 8 shows per week, and maintaining the physical production

• General theater maintenance - touch up paint, seating, carpeting, keeping equipment inventories, etc

• Additional support for the production and theater in all fields of technical theatre

• Purchasing show perishables and running supplies



Requirements

• Creativity and willingness to work as a team member

• Prior experience on run crew expected

• Stage carpentry and/ or prop artisan skills and painting are ideal

• Knowledge of theatrical equipment

• Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills

• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office

• Ability to work in a detailed and organized manner, resourceful and flexible



This position at Manhattan Theatre Club’s City Center Stage I theatre is under the jurisdiction of the collective bargaining agreement between MTC and IATSE Local One for Stage I. Pay and benefits are prescribed by this union agreement currently at $30.98 per hour.



This is an excellent opportunity to join the highly skilled run crew of one of New York’s most prestigious producing organizations. This is a full time seasonal position with varied hours. Evening, early morning, late night, and weekend hours are required.
