Job Summary



Under the leadership of Terrie and Bradley Bloom Artistic Director Diane Paulus and Executive Director Kelvin Dinkins, Jr., the American Repertory Theater is poised to raise significant funds to support the vision of the Artistic Director and the A.R.T.'s productions, while enhancing the cultural climate of the community, and creating a model for American theaters. With this visibility and energy, the Assistant Director, Institutional Events and Partnerships will join a Development department that is designed to capitalize on an evolving model of arts philanthropy. Reporting to the Director of Development, this role is an integral member of an evolving development team charged with raising over $5M in annual contributed support for the theater. This position utilizes skills fundamental to successful non-profit fundraising and arts administration while contributing to the day-to-day functions of the development department.



Position Description





•Strategizes, plans, and manages approximately 40 in-person and virtual donor events and engagement experiences each season surrounding production activities including opening nights, closing night toasts, technical rehearsals, cast meet-and-greets, conversations with artists, and more.

•Leads the programming, planning, and producing of A.R.T.'s existing virtual and in-person event series in collaboration with members of other departments and works to develop additional experiences on an ad hoc basis as events and artist opportunities arise.

•Participates in creating and implementing creative strategies that will enable the A.R.T. to aggressively increase its base of contributed support by creating additional curated experiences and opportunities for donors and prospects.

•Leads the logistical and strategic planning of the A.R.T.'s annual gala, the theater's largest fundraising event of the season, which regularly engages 400-500 attendees and raises approximately $1.3M for A.R.T. programming.

•Along with the Director of Development, co-leads fundraising strategy and coordination associated with the A.R.T. gala.

•Assists with the cultivation of corporate giving and serves as a corporate donor liaison for the A.R.T. to create mutually beneficial recognition and engagement opportunities.

•Prepares and/or organizes all necessary solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship materials related to major gifts, special events, and corporate sponsors. Creates briefing memos and donor "look books" for staff and leadership.





Basic Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:



•Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience in fundraising, or large events logistics and project management.

•Excellent written and verbal skills. Solid organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.

•Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills - ability to work with a diverse group of volunteers and staff in a collaborative manner.

•Ability to manage donors and prospects with a high level of attention and discretion. A solid understanding of fundraising databases, as well as overall computer literacy, is required. Interest or experience in the arts is highly desirable.

•Additional Information

•Ability to work in an office setting and maintain a professional demeanor with all internal and external stakeholders.

•Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends required.
