Listing Information

Following a summer that saw The Humanist Project nominated in two categories for The City’s Best 2026 — Best Art School and Best Off-Off Broadway Theater — the organization is looking ahead to the fall with a new series of classes and workshops for actors, performers, and anyone interested in developing their creative practice.

This fall, The Humanist Project presents a series of three classes and workshops led by artists and educators Sheila Bandyopadhyay and Michael F. Toomey. The programs explore Shakespeare, scene work, clowning, physical acting, presence, and the possibilities of play in performance.

Shakespeare! Scenes! How to Do.

An 8-week class with Sheila Bandyopadhyay & Michael F. Toomey
Mondays, October 5 – November 23 | 7–10 PM

This eight-week class invites performers to get inside Shakespeare's language, find personal connections to characters and relationships, and inhabit the text with spontaneity and power. Clowning for Actors and Performers

A 3-day workshop with Michael F. Toomey
October 23–25

An opportunity for actors and performers to explore clowning as a practice of presence, play, failure, discovery, and connection. The workshop encourages participants to take risks, embrace the unexpected, and find the possibilities that emerge when performance begins with play. Physical Acting: Form & Presence

A weekend workshop with Sheila Bandyopadhyay
December 11–13

A physical approach to acting combining expressivity and presence-based practices. Participants will explore how awareness and physical freedom can expand their actor's toolkit, increase their confidence in the room, and develop specificity with character and text.

Yay! Now what??

Enrollment is now open for the fall class series. Participants can explore individual class descriptions, schedules, and pricing information through The Humanist Project.

Take all three classes and receive a special discount.

The Humanist Project welcomes actors, performers, students, teachers, and curious humans of all experience levels to join the fall series.
