AN UND AUS at New National Theatre Tokyo

The third installment in the "With – Connecting with World Theatre –" series takes us to Germany, with a new play commissioned from Roland Schimmelpfennig. The playwright is counted among the vanguard of Germany's contemporary theatre scene. The production of his play Die Frau von Frueher (The Woman Before / Mukashi no onna) brought him to Japan for the first time in 2008. His impressions of Tokyo and of Japan during that period as he traveled about, as well as what he has seen happening in Japan since March 2011 as someone on the outside looking in, helped shape this provocative new work. With his unique perspective, Schimmelpfennig explores the question: How are we going to live from this moment forward? This will be the first time a new Schimmelpfennig play will be premiered in a country outside the German-speaking world.
