The Artist Series Presents TURANDOT 3/12

Teatro Lirico D'Europa, the European opera touring company, has completed over 4,000 performances worldwide and 11 consecutive US tours. The popular company embarks on its 12th American season of touring in winter fall 2010-winter 2011 with performances of several different full-scale operas, including a traditional, Italian version of Puccini's final masterpiece TURANDOT. TURANDOT will be at the Times Union Center's Moran Theater on Saturday, March 12th at 8:00PM for one performance only!
Teatro Lirico D'Europa was created in 1988 by the late Yves Josse, a former ballet divo and brilliant French arts promoter, and Giorgio Lalov, a young Bulgarian opera singer who made his debut at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, at the age of 25 while participating in Scala's famous international training program for young singers. The collaboration between Josse and Lalov was a huge success in a very short time, resulting in tours with over 250 performances a season throughout France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.THE OPERA: Puccini's final masterpiece, TURANDOT is based on the Greek myth "the riddle of the sphinx". The story takes place in the ancient "Forbidden City" of Peking. Princess Turandot, haunted by the brutal rape and murder of her cousin, poses an impossible riddle to any man who wishes to marry her, resulting in many beheadings, to the great horror of all Peking. Finally, a brave Persian Prince solves the riddle and ends this deadly cycle, restoring peace to Peking and winning the heart of Turandot.The Artist Series' website: www.artistseriesjax.org
