CRIMES OF THE HEART and More Highlight FSU School of Theatre's 2012-13 Season

By:

With a national ranking and a plethora of talented young artists, the School of Theatre is presenting a season that will be sure to impress and captivate audiences of all ages. This year's shows explore various aspects of life that we encounter every day: passion, love, fear, greed, deceit, and so much more. The School of Theatre at Florida State has an enthralling season in store for 2012-2013.

Opening the season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Crimes of the Heart, audiences will see the secrets of the Magrath sisters revealed; they must join forces to support one another as they each face the consequences of the "crimes of heart" she has committed. Runs tonight, October 5-14, 2012 in the Lab Theatre.

Musical sensation How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying follows the adventures of ambitious J. Pierrepont Finch as he climbs up the ladder of success with the help of a book, alongside getting the girl in the mix. Runs October 19-28, 2012 in the Fallon Theatre.

Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke, set in the early years of the 20th century, sends us on an emotional journey following Alma Winemiller and her romantic exploration of life, body and soul. Runs November 2-11, 2012 in the Lab Theatre.

The powerful yet fun-filled story The Monster Under the Bed will have audiences tagging along with Ben and his "underbed" monsters, reminding us of the reality of facing our fears and acknowledging the monsters inside us all. Runs November 15-18, 2012 in the Fallon Theatre.

Eight time Tony Award-winning rock musical Spring Awakening, an adaptation of the controversial 1891 German play by Frank Wedekind, explores the world of teenage sexuality and how it can lead to our love and demise when left in the dark. Runs February 22 – March 3, 2013 in the Fallon Theatre.

William Shakespeare's comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, exposes us to how love can start with typical gossip, rumors, eavesdropping and deceit, and still end in the joyous celebration of two marriages. Runs March 29 – April 7, 2013 in the Lab Theatre.

"We're really pleased with the variety of shows we're offering this season. Whether it's strained family relationships in Crimes of the Heart or a Broadway blockbuster musical like How to Succeed…, I think we have something for everybody," says Marketing Director Susan Thomas.
