Fellow Travelers at Austin Opera

Fellow Travelers, an opera depicting a gay love story set during the McCarthy-era Lavender Scare, makes its Texas premiere at Austin Opera. The production traces decades of government persecution faced by LGBTQ+ Americans, from the Lavender Scare to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to the trans military ban. Each performance features The Lavender Names Project, a living memorial created in collaboration with the American LGBTQ+ Museum, ALL OUT, and the Lambda Archives of San Diego, which collects photos and stories of LGBTQ+ community members who were systematically fired by federal and local governments.
