On Thursday, February 16 2017, the national theatre of Israel Habima Theatre will begin performances of Harvey Fierstein's play "Torch Song Trilogy", directed by Nathan Datner. The cast includes Mordi Gershon, Aki Avni/Nati Ravitz, Miki Kam/Rivka Michaeli, Riki Blich, Omer Dror (making his Habima Theatre debut and repertoire theatre debut), Itamar Carmeli/Gil Seri and "The Hazelnuts" - Shira Z. Carmel, Yifeat Ziv, Anat Moshkovski.

The play, which was written by Harvey Fierstein as a collection of three plays and premiered on Broadway in 1982, is a personal, funny and moving story that centers on Arnold, a Jewish drag queen from New York who is on a quest for love, respect and tradition in a world that doesn't accept him as he is. In a night club where he works he meets Ed, a bisexual schoolteacher who is uncomfortable with his sexuality. A year later he meets his first real and promising love, a young male model named Alan. The third part of the story presents Arnold's complicated relations with his mother who doesn't accept who he is.
Armed with humor and wittiness, Arnold continues to examine the accepted conditions of affection and creates a humane story that authorizes to us all that all is fair in the way to finding happiness.

"Torch Song Trilogy" was written as a groundbreaking play 35 years ago, earned Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Actor in a Play, and is as relevant today as it was back then. The play presents on stage the human need that exists in us all- to love and especially to feel loved.

A moving comic drama about love, loneliness and everything in between.

Opening night: Thursday, February 16 at 20:00.
Additional performances: February 17-20.
All shows will take place at Habima Theatre's Meskin auditorium.
Play duration: One and a half hour, without an intermission.
The show is restricted to ages 18 and above.
