Rod Goodall Stars In BURN THE BAD LAMP At Roscommon Arts Centre Oct 9
If there was ever a time for a 'feel good' show, this is it and Town Hall productions have an absolute treat lined up for theatre lovers at Roscommon Arts Centre this October 9th. Starring veteran Galway-based actor Rod Goodall 'Burn the Bad Lamp' is the simply beautiful tale of an aging man who has lost his way in the world. The owner of an antique shop, he sits surrounded by the tumbling remains of his life's work until a light of hope is shone into his world. Told with the assistance of puppeteer Áine Ní Dhroighneáin, this show challenges our cynicism, weaving wonder in your heart, it leaves you feeling good about life and where you're going.
Rod Goodall was a core member of the original Footsbarn Travelling Theatre and performed in all their early classic works. After touring the world for 12 years with Footsbarn, he became joint artistic director of Macnas and oversaw many award winning shows and parades. In 1998 he rejoined Footsbarn for a 4 year tour playing the title role in Moliere's Don Juan. Since his return to Galway he has produced his one man show, An Evening with Samuel Johnson. He played Michael in Someone to Watch Over Me for Decadent Theatre, Ensemble player in Passion Machine's P by Paul Mercier and Captain Lancey in Translation for Ouroborus. Rod has also directed Fibin, the Irish Language Theatre company, Defending the Caveman with Simon Delaney and the Special Olympic Opening Ceremony for Macnas.'Burn the Bad Lamp' is written by Sligo-based Kevin Barry. Kevin's first collection of short stories, 'There Are Little Kingdoms' was published in 2007 and was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, along with being named a book-of-the-year in the Irish Times. Kevin's short stories have been published in many journals and anthologies, including the New Yorker, the Dublin Review, the John McGahern Yearbook and Phoenix Best Irish Short Stories. His novel, 'City Of Bohane' will be published in March 2011.
