D'Arrietta's Drunken Piano Returns To EdFringe Multi award winning D'Arrietta returns by popular demand to Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, with gritty and imaginative interpretations of greatly loved music from the most influential and enigmatic songwriters of the age.

Following the success of My Leonard Cohen at EdFringe 2016-17, Stewart D'Arrietta presents a brand new show for 2018. Belly Of A Drunken Piano comes fresh from its world premiere at Adelaide Fringe Festival earlier this year, where it collected all five star reviews. The lyrical tragedies and jocular narratives of Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Ian Dury, Joe Cocker and Bruce Springsteen inhabit the underworld of D'Arrietta's drunken piano, in this ardent celebration of musical legends.

These are stories lived away from the light of day, tracing the meandering path of the bourbon swilling barfly, biting back pain of a tragic romance, howling at the brink of closing time. The show touches on themes of love, loneliness, war, the dreams and ambitions of childhood and our relationship with God. This romp through musical history is delivered with D'Arrietta's trademark raw vocal style, punctuated by his laconic humour and compositions of his own.

D'Arrietta on piano and vocals is joined by a collection of world-class musicians from Australia and Scotland. "It's great to be playing the music of this amazing collection of artists," says D'Arrietta. "After five years of my Tom Waits show in New York, the man himself closed me down with a 'cease and desist order', so this show means a welcome return to some of my favourite material."

Multi award winning Australian performer, composer and musical director D'Arrietta has performed in venues across the globe, including at Montreal Jazz Festival, The Riverside Theatre London, EX Theatre Toyko and The Soho Playhouse New York. Credits include Lennon: Through A Glass Onion (co-created and performed with John Waters, and one of the longest running, most successful shows in Australia), My Leonard Cohen (sold out shows at Sydney Opera House, EdFringe and Adelaide Fringe), The White Album Concert and Beatles Back To Back, (Sydney Opera House), Cafe Brel, Feeling Randy, Satango and Tuxedo And The Little Black Dress.

STEWART D'ARRIETTA is a prolific, multi award winning composer, musical director, performer and producer. Lennon: Through a Glass Onion, a show Stewart co-wrote with Australian actor and musician John Waters, has enjoyed success worldwide, most recently with a 25-year anniversary celebration of the show at the Sydney Opera House in early 2017 and touring the UK, Ireland, US and Canada in Autumn 2016.

In 2007, Stewart was musical director for The Beatles' White Album Concert, performing at the Sydney Opera House with 15 other high profile artists. Other musical director/performer/composer credits include Café Brel, Reunion, Tuxedo and the Little Black Dress and Satango. Stewart has composed for numerous features, short-form drama and documentaries including Emmy Award-winning Documentary Faces in the Mob.
