BWW Previews: SANSKERTA Seeks to Conserve Indonesian Heritage Through RAHWANA

Indonesia's rich culture and history spanning hundreds of years are priceless heritage for the people of today, as Sanskerta believes. Sanskerta is a yearly musical theatre production by the students of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, a private university based in BSD, Tangerang, Indonesia. Sanskerta seeks to rekindle the love of Indonesian cultural and national values through performing art, combining acting, music, and dance in stories adapted from the Indonesian legacy.

This year, Sanskerta will perform RAHWANA, a story adapted from the Ramayana. Ramayana is an epic poem originating in India which has been assimilated into classic Indonesian literature oeuvre for centuries. The original Ramayana tells the story of how the prince Rama vanquishes the demon Rahwana who kidnapped his wife, Sita.
Sanskerta will retell the tale from the eyes of Rahwana, the demon king, and explores his motivation, action, and passion. The overlaying theme is 'Maturity' and how people attain maturity through their experiences in life and embody the value of maturity.
