Karen Irwin to Pay Homage to Janis Joplin in New Cabaret Set, 7/26-27
By: Tyler Peterson
Local theatre veteran, Karen Irwin, takes the audience on a musical journey through her own personal transformation as inspired by her musical idol, Janis Joplin. Joplin used her "un-girly" voice and her no-holds-barred, blues-inspired performance style to triumph over her personal and social adversities, forever changing the face of women in music. With anecdotes and Joplin songs including "Mercedes Benz," "Piece of My Heart," and "Bobby McGee," Irwin pays homage to the musical icon that changed her life.
The show is set for July 26 & 27, 2013 at 8:00PM at The Cabaret at the Columbia Club, 121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Tickets are $25, $35, $45 ($12 food or beverage minimum). For tickets call 317.275.1169, or order online at www.TheCabaret.orgKaren Irwin, Indianapolis native and super-committed artist, has a long history in the performing arts. Her acting talents (honed very early on by every class Indianapolis offered) took her to prison - ask about that later - as well as to New York City, where she was awarded Best Actress In A Play at the Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival. Local audiences may remember her from her starring role in Assholes & Aureoles (an IndyFringe prize-winner), plays at The Phoenix Theatre, or from countless evenings bringing true heart to karaoke with her years of Karenoke, mentoring and generally bossing her audiences into submission. She also fronted the blues band, Karen and The Beast, around the turn of the century. You can keep up with Karen, including where to find her next via her website, karenirwin.com.Videos
