Jagriti presents 'Dead Man's Cell Phone' by Sarah Ruhl. An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet cafe. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man-with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man's Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur 'Genius' Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Sarah Ruhl, author of The Clean House and Eurydice. A work about how we memorialise the dead-and how that remembering changes us-it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world. Directed by Vivek Madan. The Company Jagriti's in-house company brought you the entire Season 2012, including Valley Song and Orgasmo Adulto Escapes from the Zoo. Formerly known as The Artistes' Repertory Theatre, the company is one of the oldest and most prolific English-language theatres in the country. Founded in 1982 by Arundhati and Jagdish Raja, the company has staged nearly 70 major productions in India and the UK. The Director Vivek Madan works in theatre and at Jagriti full time. He last directed The Invisible River by Gautam Raja as part of Jagriti's Season 2012. He has also directed A Twist of Lime by Anita Nair for Jagriti. In 2011 he directed Nostalgia Brand Chewing Gum by Eric Gordon for QTP, Mumbai, a production that continues to run today. He is also an accomplished actor, more recently playing The Common Man in A Man for all Seasons by Robert Bolt, directed by Arjun Sajnani.
