Violinist Joshua Bell Makes Magnificent Music at The Grand!

By:

On Sunday, October 22 at 3 pm, The Grand 1894 Opera House presents violinist Joshua Bell. Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com.

With a career spanning more than 30 years as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and conductor, Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated violinists of his era. An exclusive Sony Classical artist, Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs garnering Grammy, Mercury, Gramophone, and Echo Klassik awards, as well as the Avery Fisher Prize. In 2011, Bell succeeded Sir Neville Marriner as Music Director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. In 2011, Bell served on the President Obama's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, participating in the U.S. government's inaugural cultural mission to Cuba. Additionally, he was involved in Turnaround Arts, a program providing arts education to low-performing elementary and middle schools.

Last year, Bell appeared as a week-long Artist-in-Residence at the Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra, performing and collaborating across artistic and educational mediums. Bell explored the depths of artistic possibilities, examining synergies between music, dance, the culinary arts, literature, education, and technology. Featured events included an evening with Gourmet Symphony, a collaboration with Brooklyn's Dance Heginbotham, a recital with literature celebrating John F. Kennedy's Centennial, and a world premiere co-commission from Anne Dudley in a family concert based on the bestselling children's book The Man with the Violin, inspired by Bell's incognito 2007 D.C. Metro performance.

This performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts. It is also sponsored in part by The Trube Foundation and Galveston Musical Club. Single tickets and subscription packages are now available. Contact The Grand's box office at 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or visit The Grand at www.thegrand.com. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grand 1894 Opera House is located at 2020 Postoffice Street in Galveston's historic downtown Cultural Arts District, and is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the State of Texas." All major credit cards accepted.
