THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON Premieres Tonight at Stages Repertory Theatre

By:

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON, written and created by Roger Bean, makes its world premiere tonight, July 28, 2016 at Stages Repertory Theatre in Houston, TX!

It's 1969, and everyone is gathered in the Springfield High School Gymnasium, where the Wonderettes are throwing a fabulous retirement party for their beloved homeroom teacher. But as the decade passes, one Wonderette must choose between her lifelong friends and the allure of fame.

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES: DREAM ON features your favorite songs from the '60s and '70s: "Build Me Up, Buttercup," "Gimme Some Lovin'," "I Will Survive," "The Hustle," "I Can See Clearly Now," "We Are Family," and more!

Roger Bean, the mastermind behind the award-winning Wonderettes series, created the first Wonderettes production for Milwaukee Repertory Theatre in 1999. Since its debut, the series has won several awards and been produced throughout the U.S. As Bean began to gain national recognition for his original work, he was inspired to pen additional installments for the Wonderettes series, like his latest, DREAM ON.

Stages is delighted to present the DREAM ON world premiere. The hit musical series first premiered at Stages in July 2010 with The Marvelous Wonderettes and ran for a record-breaking 8 months. Stages has also produced the other shows in the series, Winter Wonderettes (2011 and 2012) and The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns (2013).

Bean chose Stages from theatres nationwide for this premiere because of his successful past collaborations with the company's artistic leadership, which stands as a significant endorsement of the company's high standards and consistent quality of work. The author is on hand during the rehearsal and preview process to help shape the work in conjunction with Director and Choreographer Melissa Rain Anderson and Musical Director Kevin David Thomas.

Based out of New York City, Melissa Rain Anderson is a guest director for Stages' latest Wonderettes production. Anderson leads the all-star cast, which includes Houston and Stages' favorites Rachael Logue, Chelsea Ryan McCurdy, Christina Stroup, and Holland Vavra. Each of these talented actors starred in Stages' original production of The Marvelous Wonderettes in 2010 and has appeared in all subsequent Wonderettes productions at Stages.

The creative team includes Properties Designer Jodi Bobrovsky, Lighting Designer Michael Clark, Scenic Designer Liz Freese, Costume Designer Tiffani Fuller, and Sound Designer Michael Mullins.

Stages also hosts post-show Q&As with the creative team on Sunday, August 7 at 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, August 14 at 2:30 p.m.

Previews are July 28 through 31. The production opens August 3 and continues through September 18. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at Stages Repertory Theatre, 3201 Allen Parkway.
