The Pearland Theatre Guild opens its 2016 - 2017 season with a Mini Shakespeare Festival. The festival features ROMEO AND JULIET and THE WINTER'S TALE directed and adapted by Jonathan Gonzalez.

"We are excited to do our first repertory Shakespeare season at the Pearl! Following the success of last season's MACBETH, we are doubling down with the Bard and offering two different plays rotating different nights," says Gonzalez.

See the speed, passion and fire of ROMEO AND JULIET performed in a modern setting relevant to today's headlines. Enjoy the magic, mystery, music, comedy, and epic storytelling of THE WINTER'S TALE set in a surreal dream world. The plays are performed in true repertory, with the same cast performing in both shows. The outstanding cast members hail from Houston, Pearland and surrounding areas.

Both productions are suitable for all ages and, to keep the plays fast, fun, and audience friendly, the company keeps runtimes under two hours.

Festival opens August 19. Performances are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 3 p.m. Sundays; and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 25 (Buy One Get One Free, WINTER'S TALE). Through September 4. ROMEO & JULIET dates: August 19, 21, 26, 28 and September 3 and 4. THE WINTER'S TALE dates: August 20, 25, 27 and September 2. The Pearl Theater, 14803 Park Almeda Drive. 832-459-4674.
