Main Street Theater presents George Bernard Shaw's bracing farce, HEARTBREAK HOUSE. With previews May 3, 4, and 7, Heartbreak House opens May 8 and runs through June 1 at Main Street Theater - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast below!

September, 1914. The topsy-turvy household of Captain Shotover and his daughter Hesione Hushabye entertains weekend guests: Ellie Dunn, her father, and her fiancé. Unfortunately, Ellie''s fiancé is a scoundrel, her father is a bumbling prig, and she''s actually in love with Hesione''s husband Hector. This bold mix of farce and philosophy lampoons British society as it blithely ignores the catastrophe looming on the horizon that will become the War to End All Wars.

George Bernard Shaw wrote over 60 plays in addition to music and literary criticism, journalistic works, novels and short stories. He is the only person ever to have won both the Nobel Prize (1925) and an Academy Award (1938). His list of great works is lengthy and would certainly include Pygmalion, Mrs. Warren''s Profession, Major Barbara, Candida, Arms and the Man, and You Never Can Tell, among others.

Rebecca Greene Udden directs a cast which includes Houston favorite Charles Krohn, Elizabeth Marshall Black, Sheryl Croix (The Coast of Utopia), Joanna Hubbard (Close Up Space, Memory House), Joe Kirkendall (A Civil War Christmas, The Real Thing, The Coast of Utopia), Jeffrey S. Lane (But Not Goodbye, The Secret Garden, Li''l Abner), Celeste Roberts (Master Class, Henry V, Dog Act), Mark Roberts (This, Henry V, Machinal), Jim Salners (The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Driftwood, Caroline or Change), and Joel Sandel (Love Goes to Press, The Coast of Utopia, The Doctor''s Dilemma).

The design team includes Ryan McGettigan (set design), Margaret Crowley (costume design), Carrie Cavins (lighting design), Alex Worthington (sound design), and Rodney Walsworth (properties design). Debs Ramser is the production stage manager.

Performances are on Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $39 - $20 (previews are $10), depending on date and section, and are on sale in person at the Main Street Theater Box Office, 2540 Times Blvd., via phone at 713.524.6706, or online at MainStreetTheater.com. Recommended for audiences 18 and up.
