Obsidian Announces Next Show OTHELLO: THE REMIX

Obsidian Theater brings the Q Brothers' modern classic to MATCH Houston. This inventive show has been wowing audiences and winning awards for almost a decade. August 29 - September 21, 2019. '

The Bard's classic of the tragic general and his doomed love is set to inventive new rhymes and fresh beats. The tragedy comes to new life with humor and great energy.

Obsidian Theater is excited to produce this international hit at our new home MATCH Houston. Othello: The Remix has impressed critics and excited crowds around the world. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times says, "A Clever and exuberantly performed mash-up of hip-hop and Shakespeare. The music pulses with life." Jesse Green of New York Magazine say, "Inventive and full of laughs. Shakespeare's poetry is reinvigorated." The multiple award winner at at the Edinburgh's Fringe Festival got 5 stars from the London Telegraph.

Obsidian is excited to present this exciting piece of theater to our patrons and expose new audiences to both of these classic art forms. We are also pleased to be working with Bryan-Keyth Wilson who will be directing Othello: The Remix. Bryan-Keyth is a local writer, director and choreographer who attended Sam Houston State University before continuing his studies and starting his career in New York City. This triple threat has directed off Broadway shows as well as studied with the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham schools.

Performances of Othello: The Remix are August 30 - September 21, Thursday the 29th will be a preview. Shows are Thursday at 7:30, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm. For more information please email us at tom@obsidiantheater.org.
