New Artist Added To Clarke & Associates Exhibition With Opening Reception Clarke & Associates will host an opening reception on May 5 for Felipe Lopez and his Ambiente Amore exhibition and Lester Marks for his Capturing Dreams: Roticas, Spectrums, and Personages photo works. Their works will be displayed in two separate gallery spaces at Clarke & Associates. Guests can meet both of the artists and view their art at this free event in The Heights. The exhibition runs May 5 - Aug. 24 and will include experiential multimedia components that provide an engaging sensory experience to the audience.

Ambiente Amore examines our relationship with the ambiance of water and nature, and how the two collide into memorable landscapes. Works include pieces in various mediums from Lopez's Light Bulb Series, Ambiente, Flor, Ambiente Chandelier and the 2017 painting series, Space Is Only Noise That You Can See. Just as biologists study the effects of ambient light on plants, meteorologists report on ambient pressure and acoustics experts try to control ambient sound, Lopez constructs materials that, once assembled, offer encompassing landscapes, a host of moods and a place of reflective space.

Capturing Dreams: Roticas, Spectrums and Personages will offer viewers a unique perspective into the photo art of Marks. He creates compositions from assembling a variety of light sources uniquely his own, then subverts the camera settings to create shrouds of mystery. He is not using the camera to capture images but to create the look of abstract, stained, raw and pigmented canvasses of the Color Field artists.

Born in the Bronx, New York, Cuban-American Felipe Lopez is a self-taught visual artist based in Houston. He has exhibited at multiple galleries and venues throughout the United States, beginning his career with mixed media drawings and paintings. In 2013, his work was included in two large exhibitions at prestigious institutions: the Exposure photography exhibition in Long Island City, New York and the African American Artist Exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Lopez's first solo exhibition took place in 2014 at the HAA Gallery, entitled Constructing the Praxis of Interactivity.

Houstonian Lester Marks has been collecting and creating art since the 1990s and has had several exhibitions in galleries around the country. His home is filled with modern and contemporary art and sculpture. Art News magazine named Marks as one of the top 200 art collectors in the world. He is also Mayor Sylvester Turner's Ambassador to the Arts and sits on the board of the Houston Arts Alliance. Marks and Lopez are close friends, as well as professional colleagues.
