MR. BOOKER T. AT THE DOOR To Be Read At This Year's National Black Theater Festival

Houston playwright/director/producer Vincent Victoria's play"Mr Booker T. at the Door" isamong the plays chosen to be read at this year's National Black Theater Festival from July 28th - August 3rd in Winston-Salem North Carolina.
Selected from among hundreds of play submissions to the prestigious play festival, Mr. Booker T, at the Door made its World Premiere in Houston in October. The play chronicles the infamous dinner between Legendary African American Educator Booker T. Washington and President Theodore Roosevelt in 1901. What made the dinner so noteworthy was the fact that it was the first time a Black person had ever dined inside the White House as a guest.
Says Victoria "It is truly an honor to have my work recognized and to get my voice heard beyond the stages of Houston,Texas. It is a great struggle for local African American Playwrights to gain traction with their plays in the city, as most local theater companies if they do produce works by Black Playwrights, the playwrights are not homegrown. I did not study to be a playwright but I feel that I have a natural gift for writing and my plays have been well received in the Houston area and deserve a broader audience. I am hoping that this is the first step in achieving that. My next original play will be about Florence Ballard, former member of the singing group The Supremes. The new play will make its World Premiere in February of 2020".
