MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD Receives Houston Premiere at MATCH 5/11

Motherhood Out Loud, written by a collection of celebrated American writers, unfolds a series of monologues on the many aspects of maternity and shines a light on issues of motherhood in the 21st Century. The show makes its Houston debut at the MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston) for 8 performances May 11- 14 and May 18 - 21.

Motherhood Out Loud shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span and unite generations. From birth to old age, Motherhood Out Loud reveals the humor, raw emotions and rocky roads experienced by parents. The stories are as varied as the mothers who tell them--from the joy of cradling a newborn baby in your arms to the pathos of parenting a teenager, an autistic or a transgender child--all are stories of unconditional love.

Four actors will be playing fifteen different characters. Callina Situka, has been seen this season as Calpurnia in A.D. Players' To Kill a Mockingbird and as Marianne in Main Street Theater's The Revolutionists. Rebecca Bivens, a gifted comedienne, has been seen on many of Houston's major stages over her twenty-year career. Dain Geist, the lone male actor in the cast, plays all of the men in the show-fathers, sons and husbands! Actress Tracy Ahern, best known for her turn in Main Street Theater's long-running hit Girls Only: The Secret Comedy of Women, rounds out the cast and is also producer.

Actress/Producer Ahern says, "The first time I read Motherhood Out Loud, I was struck by how real and relatable the characters were, and I saw myself in them-I was that exhausted mom. I am that mom who is asked intrusive questions about the circumstances of my children's adoptions while shopping the produce aisle. I am definitely that Mama Bear who will protect my children at all costs! It's always comforting to have shared moments with friends that leave me realizing, 'Hey, I'm not the only one!' this show is full of those moments!"

Performance times for MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD are Thursday - Saturday 7:30pm and Sunday 3pm at MATCH, 3400 Main Street. The show runs Thursday, May 11 thru Sunday, May 21. Prices are $29. There is a $3 discount for groups of 10 or more when using the code TENPLUS at checkout online or by phone.
