HITS Theatre starts the spring season in style with the production of Legally Blonde The Musical at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park at 6000 Hermann Park Drive with performances scheduled for April 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.

Based on the blockbuster movie, Legally Blonde The Musical is an award-winning musical that follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. This action-packed show explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances and is equal parts hilarious and heart-warming.

HITS has been partnering with the City of Houston through the Miller Theatre Advisory Board to produce a Broadway-style musical at Miller Outdoor Theatre each year since 1987. Additional sponsors of the production include Houston Endowment Inc., the Brown Foundation Inc., the Houston Arts Alliance and the Wortham Foundation Inc.

HITS Interim Artistic Director Lauren Pastorek, a onetime HITS student, is directing Legally Blonde The Musical along with HITS Associate Artistic Director Barry Stagg, Choreographer Dana Lewis and Musical Director Stephen W. Jones. Pastorek says Elle Woods' journey to Harvard University to reconnect with her college sweetheart makes her realize that she isn't just a blonde bombshell, but has brains too.

"As a blonde myself, I have often been judged by my appearance and made to feel as though I had less to offer because of how I looked, but I was lucky enough to have supportive parents and teachers who always challenged me to be more than what the fashion magazines asked of me," Pastorek said. "At HITS, we are trying to promote this attitude of self-confidence through hard work and achievement rather than what you have or how you look. We are having an incredible time staging this piece."

Mia Heckler, a West University resident and a sophomore at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, stars as Elle alongside more than 35 youth cast members from all over the Houston metropolitan area. The costar of the show is Bruiser, Elle's canine companion, who comes complete with painted pink nails.

Legally Blonde The Musical contains adult humor, innuendo and mild language, so parental discretion and guidance is advised.

This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (4 per person over age 16 while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between the hours of 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. If tickets remain at 1 p.m., the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets.

Tickets are also available by making a donation to HITS Theatre. Please contact HITS at 713-904-3352 or visit http://www.hitstheatre.org/support-us/donate-online.html.

As always, no tickets are needed for open seating on the hill.
