Breaking the nightclub standard, Obsidian Theatre and Rich's Nightclub present Hedwig and the Angry Inch live onstage. November 2 - 18, audiences can experience an exciting evening of award-winning theatre in a setting similar to where Hedwig began. Blake Jackson, winner of Houston Press Theatre Award as Best Male Newcomer, reprises his award-winning role of Hedwig at Rich's for only ten performances.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the story of a rock and roll band fronted by Hedwig, the "internationally ignored song stylist" who is the victim of a botched sex change operation. The show daringly breaks the fourth wall, as Hedwig relays her past tribulations and heartbreak in the form of monologues and rock songs. During this unique rock odyssey, Hedwig examines her quest for her other half, for love, and ultimately for her identity.

The show's leading characters, Hedwig and Tommy, were born in the early 1990s when writing partners Stephen Trask and John Cameron Mitchell debuted some of their early work at New York City's drag/punk club, Squeezebox. The show began to take shape with late night band gigs, and eventually workshopped in small theatres before debuting Off-Broadway at the Jane Street Theatre in 1998. Former Hedwigs, on and off Broadway include; Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Cerveris, Taye Diggs and Anthony Rapp to name just a few.

"What I really love about this show, what energizes me about it and makes me excited to work on it, is that at its core, it's about individuation, or self-actualization," said director Chris Patton, opening up about his point of view on one of the world's most groundbreaking rock musicals. "Yes, it's about authentic rock 'n' roll, glam rock, and punk rock." Yes, it's about fourth-wall smashing comedy and tragedy. And yes, it's about sexuality, gender, and love. But, mainly, it's about figuring out who you are as a person, and I think that's one of the most exciting things for an audience to watch a lead character do, right before their eyes, amidst a sea of searingly honest writing, and legitimately rebellious rock music!"

This remount of Hedwig and the Angry Inch includes original Obsidian Theater director Chris Patton, newcomer Bethany Morgan as Yitzhak and reprising his award winning role as Hedwig, Blake Jackson.

Performances of Hedwig and the Angry Inch are November 2 - November 18, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm, with Industry Night on Monday, November 13 at 8 pm. Doors open at 7 pm. There is a full bar and all theatre goers are invited to stay after the play with cover charges waived. All performances are at Rich's.
