Da Camera Presents The New York Philharmonic String Quartet On March 29
Da Camera of Houston's 2018-19 chamber music series continues with a performance by the New York Philharmonic String Quartet at Zilkha Hall, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. This concert marks the ensemble's long-awaited Houston debut.
The stupendous string quartet is comprised of four virtuosi, prize-winning principal musicians from the vaunted New York Philharmonic: former Houston Symphony concertmaster and Houston native Frank Huang, violin; Sheryl Staples, violin; Cynthia Phelps, viola; and Carter Brey, cello. Formed in January 2017, during the Philharmonic's 175th anniversary season, the musicians have performed as concerto soloists with orchestras around the world and have appeared frequently in the Philharmonic's chamber music series.
In Houston, the ensemble's program includes Joseph Haydn's Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76, No. 2, "Die Quinten;" Dmitri Shostakovich's Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 117; and Johannes Brahms' Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2.
Da Camera's chamber music series continues with The Veil of Orpheus: Cy Twombly and Music on Tuesday, April 2, 2019; Ashberyana: A Musical Celebration of Poet John Ashbery on Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and Weinberg and Mendelssohn featuring the Daedalus Quartet and the Brentano Quartet with pianist Sarah Rothenberg on Friday, May 10, 2019.
