Firecracker Productions has announced its 2017-18 season, which will be performed at Obsidian Theater.

"The last few years have been about discovering ourselves. The upcoming season is about strengthening our mission to present contemporary theatre that asks questions," says Executive Director Sammy McManus. "These productions are intimate and personal; they examine our relationships with those around us and inspire dialogue about issues that are real and sometimes painful. Both plays this season are directed by female artists and feature the local talent that has built an incredible arts community in Houston."

The season will open with the regional premiere of Crooked by Catherine Trieschmann (August 18-September 2), about a young girls' spiritual and sexual journey that threatens her relationship with her mother. Select performances will benefit Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Greater Houston, and Covenant House. Danielle Bunch will direct.

On November 25, Firecracker will host Friendsgiving: A Community Celebration, benefiting Houston Food Bank.

Following will be the Houston premiere of Love/Sick by John Cariani (March 2-17, 2018), a play that explores the pain and joy that comes with being in love. Directed by Kelsey McMillan.

Closing out the season will be the 24 Hour Play Festival (Summer 2018), featuring plays written and performed by local artists in one day.

Firecracker Productions is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit performing arts organization committed to presenting contemporary theatre that showcases local talent.
