ArtsPower's LAURA INGALLS WILDER Plays the Grand Today

By:

The Grand 1894 Opera House's Serious Fun Children's Series concludes the 2013-2014 Performing Arts Season with ArtsPower's production of "Laura Ingalls Wilder" today, May 7 at 10am. Suitable for children 2nd through 6th grade, this original musical chronicles the exciting adventures of the Ingalls family as they cross the prairie in search of a little house to call home.

Laura and her family face many challenges including Indian attacks, disease and devastating crop losses. However, their unwavering "pioneer spirit" and devotion to one another helps them overcome anything. The lush musical score captures the restlessness and excitement of loading the covered wagon and setting out on the journey of a lifetime.

Written and directed by ArtsPower Artistic Director, Greg Dunning, "Laura Ingalls Wilder" has been a hit with audiences since its premier in 1995. "At ArtsPower, we are committed to enriching children's lives through the performing arts," said Executive Director Gary Blackman. "By introducing our young audiences to enthusiastic children like Laura, children can see new possibilities in life and in themselves......we ignite their desire to read."

The children's series performances have been designated The Harris L. Kempner Children's Series in honor of Mr. Kempner's lifelong commitment to youth, education and The Grand's programming. They are supported in part by donations to The Grand's Permanent Fund in his memory. Additional support is provided by the following: Dr. Leon Bromberg Charitable Trust, , The Commodore on the Beach Hotel, Jamail Galveston Foundation, Robert W. & Pearl Wallis Knox Foundation, Marathon Petroleum, Permanent Endowment Fund Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church , Saltwater Grill and Texas Commission on the Arts.

Tickets are $10 adult, $6 child and school groups are $5 per person with advance reservations.
