A.D. Players' HARVEY FOR HARVEY to Benefit Houstonians' Spirit and Relief Efforts

By: Sep. 06, 2017

As they say in theater, "The show must go on," and so it will at the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater. Despite the most recent events due to the unprecedented flooding in the Houston-area, A.D. Players will move forward with their first show of the season, "Harvey," hoping the lighthearted story will lift spirits and provide some comedic relief to Houstonians as many begin the clean-up and rebuilding process following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

"Harvey" was a play selected more than a year ago and the irony of the name is not lost on the Players.

In an effort to help those directly affected by the flood, A.D. Players is launching a series of arts access and fundraising initiatives called "Harvey For Harvey". "Harvey" will open on Sept. 15 and run through Oct. 1, with a preview performance on Sept. 14. Flood victims and first responders will be able to attend any performance free-of-charge in the hopes that the hardest-hit Houstonians can come to the theater, sit back and escape realities of the past week. In addition, A.D. Players will be donating 20 percent of all proceeds from the entire run of "Harvey" to disaster relief in addition to collecting monetary donations on site at every performance.

The three Sunday matinee performances of "Harvey" will be "family days" to accommodate families with young children ages 5-11. During "Harvey's" act one children will enjoy a pop-up performance of "The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe" performed by one of A.D. Players' touring units. During act two, children can participate in theater workshops led by A.D. Players Theater Arts Academy teachers. Children 12 and older are welcome to attend "Harvey" with their parents.
