Kumu Kahua Theatre Presents DEAD OF NIGHT By Edward Sakamoto

Kumu Kahua Theatre proudly presents Edward Sakamoto?s Dead of Night, directed by Taurie Kinoshita, running May 24-June 24, 2018.

Edward Sakamoto has a "way of making his characters unique yet recognizable to anyone who has lived in Hawaii for a length of time. You can see your auntie or someone you work with in those characters" says Artistic Director Harry Wong III. He goes on to say that the characters are "uniquely from Hawaii, yet identifiable archetypes that we can relate to".

Edward Sakamoto's dynamic style of writing spans genres including the fan-favorite comedy Aloha Las Vegas and this suspenseful thriller, Dead of Night. Taking place in pre-statehood Honolulu, 1956: despite recently unionizing, Alex and his three best friends desperately struggle to provide for their families. The men decide to violently pressure their company's boss to meet the union's demands.

When money is always the bottom line, can idealism and friendship ever win?

The play runs: Thursday, Friday & Saturday 8pm: May 24, 25, 26, 31; June 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 2018. Sundays 2pm: May 27; June 3, 10, 17, *24, 2018.

Following the performance on Friday, June 1st there will be a free talk story. Sponsored by Hawaiian Electric Company, these talk stories are offered on the 2nd Friday of each production run and include an opportunity to gain behind the scenes insight from the director, cast and playwright (when available).
