2019 at Blue Note Hawaii Kicks Off with G. Love, Patton Oswalt, and More

Blue Note Hawaii is kicking off 2019 with some of music and comedy's biggest names. G. Love will get you in the partying mood, followed by two rounds of comedy with Patton Oswalt and Gary Owen. Swing kings Big Bad Voodoo Daddy return, Anthony David performs the music of Bill Withers and guitar phenom Jonny Lang performs for four nights. Singer-songwriter Joshua Radin makes his Blue Note debut. The Beach Boys' Al Jardine is sure to please crowds, '90s R&B supergroup All-4-One perform for three nights and John Sebastian from the Lovin' Spoonful will take you down memory lane. Local artists include Tim Rose in his "Aloha for Now" show, the incomparable Willie K, reggae artist Sister Nancy, the exciting Dae Han Quintet, local favorites Good Foot Hawaii and Punahou alum Willy Falk.

A 15% kama'aina discount is available to residents for most shows. This is available online with code MAHALO15, as well as in person at the box office. Parking is validated at the OHANA East Hotel for $6 for four hours, and at the Outrigger Waikiki for $15 for four hours valet.

Garrett "G.Love" Dutton, is celebrating his 25th year as a touring and recording artist. With over 15 records released, his pioneering band, The Special Sauce, has been an influence to artists such as Jack White, Jack Johnson, The Avett Brothers, Slightly Stoopid and many more. With their signature blend of Delta Blues, Hip Hop, Funk, Rock and Roll and Jazz, The Special Sauce have literally created their own funky stew of American music.

While living in his Chevy van on the island of O'ahu, writing and performing are all Tim Rose does. Driven by an insatiable passion for music that he gave away almost all his belongings in order to more effectively pursue his dreams. A minimalist musical monk, devoutly praying to the gods of funk and soul to deliver him from temptation, his passion is a force of nature, driving him to divinity or insanity- whichever comes first.

2018 marked the 25th anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's remarkable arrival onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average over 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. BBVD blends a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and Dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture.

Since the release of his debut album, GRAMMY® Award-winning Jonny Lang has built a reputation as one of the best live performers and guitarists of his generation. The path Lang has been on has brought him the opportunity to support or perform with some of the most respected legends in music. He has shared the stage with everyone from The Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Aerosmith and Buddy Guy, who he continues to tour with today.

Anthony David: Celebrating the Music of Bill Withers

Guitarist Anthony David presents a night celebrating the music of soul-singer Bill Withers. David got involved in the music scene in Atlanta in the late 1990s, meeting a then-unknown singer-songwriter India.Arie; they became friends and collaborators, with Anthony co-writing songs on her first three albums, which spawned a number of Grammy nominations, singing backup for her on tour and eventually opening for her.

Love and the complications surrounding it have long proven to be Joshua Radin's songwriting forte. Though he never intended to be a live performer, there was little choice when the first song he ever wrote, "Winter," was featured on an episode of "Scrubs." The resulting fervor around the song soon led to a record deal, and over the last decade, Radin has toured the world countless times, sold hundreds of thousands of records and topped the iTunes charts, earned raves from Rolling Stone to The Guardian, performed on "The Tonight Show," "Conan," and more, played Ellen Degeneres' wedding at her personal request, and had his songs featured in more than 150 different films, commercials, and TV shows.

Jamaican dancehall DJ and singer, Sister Nancy, is known to the world as the first female dancehall DJ, as well as being a "dominating female voice for over two decades" on the dancehall scene. One of her most famous songs is "Bam Bam," has been labeled as a "well-known reggae anthem" by BBC and a "classic" by The Observer.

Backing band for Sister Nancy will be local reggae-rock group Guidance Band. Childhood friends Keith Batlin and Ryan Brandvold of Guidance Band, began performing and writing together during high school in Hawaii. The highly anticipated sophomore album "Good Life" features both GRAMMY® Award-winner Mykal Rose of Black Uhuru and dancehall queen Sister Nancy.

Alan, aka "Al," Jardine, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, is best known for being one of the founding members of the California-based group The Beach Boys. In 2018, Al began playing solo shows on a tour featuring songs and stories from his early days to his most recent solo album A Postcard from California. Al, along with his son Matt Jardine and vocalist/musician Jeff Alan Ross, delivers an intimate show full of hits and rarities combined with never-before-heard stories (and rare pictures and videos) from Al's amazing career. With rave reviews from fans and critics, it's truly a show not to be missed.

Dae Han Quintet

Dae Han is a jazz and hip-hop drummer from Maryland and now based out of Honolulu. He currently leads a band dedicated to the sounds of Jazz and Hip-Hop Fusion, called "The Dae Han Ensemble". With musical influences from J Dilla, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder and many more, the band commemorates the sounds from the past eras and blends it with a new school touch.

Good Foot delivers driving bass and drums, dancing percussion, shimmering guitars, soaring vocal, and wailing horns in celebration of funk, soul and afro beat. Willy Falk: Mostly Love revels in richly-crafted interpretations of songs about love, coupled with stories from a thirty-five-year career on Broadway. A Punahou graduate, class of '76, he moved to New York and burst on the Broadway scene in the Marilyn: An American Fable, a musical which attained cult-like status as one of the greatest flops of all time, but saw Willy receiving a standing ovation every night for his solo number: "You Are So Beyond." Known for his powerful performances in musicals and concerts through the years, this evening speaks of music, memories, and laughter, but mostly love.

John Sebastian of The Lovin' Spoonful

Over four decades the contributions of John Sebastian have become a permanent part of the American musical fabric. His group The Lovin' Spoonful played a major role in the mid-'60s rock revolution. At the height of Beatlemania, The Lovin' Spoonful did the utterly unthinkable, by getting their first seven singles into the Top 10.

"We were grateful to the Beatles for reminding us our rock and roll roots," John explains, "but we wanted to cut out the English middlemen, so to speak, and get down to making this new music as an 'American' band."
