TheatreZone artistic director Mark Danni today announced that veteran actors Steven Geyer and TheatreZone favorite Laura Needle have been cast in leading roles as Vernon Gersch and Sonia Walsk in the non profit Equity theatre group's season finale Neal Simon's comedic gem, They're Playing Our Song.

The musical is described this way: "When Vernon Gersch (Steven Geyer), an established and wisecracking composer, takes on the kooky and offbeat lyricist Sonia Walsk (Laura Needle) as his new collaborator, their initial match is a professional success but a personal disaster.

With music by Marvin Hamlisch, They're Playing Our Song is based upon his real-life relationship with singer-songwriter Carol Bayer Sager, a wisecracking aspiring composer. The two undergo a series of trials and overcome a number of hurdles before finding true love by the final curtain.

"They're Playing Our Song is essentially a two-character show," explains director Danni. Vernon and Sonia are the sole characters on stage but each character has a three person Greek chorus acting as their inner voices, he adds. Vernon voices include actors Brent Kuenning, Yuri Rodriguez and Armondo Acevedo. Sonia Voices include Elizabeth McMonagle, Kara Konken (last seen at Theatrezone as the courtesan Panacea in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Eddie Mekka), and Sharon True, most recently seen as part of the Sweeney Todd ensemble.

They're Playing Our Song will be directed by Mark Danni, choreographed by Karen Molnar with music direction by Charles Fornara who will also play piano. A seven piece live band features Todd Betz on drums, Christian Logaglio on guitar, Don Rhynard on reeds, Mike Santiago on trumpet, Adren Hance on trombone and Joe Choomack on bass.

They're Playing Our Song performs in the G&L Theatre Thursday, April 30 through May 10, 2015. Individual seats cost $48 - $53 plus a $2 per ticket fee.
