Overview
USITT's Gateway Program, launched in 2014 in memory of Tayneshia Jefferson, is a customizable mentorship program for people from underrepresented populations in the technical theatre and design fields. Mentees are paired with a mentor to set learning goals and career development plans, attend the USITT Annual Conference with financial support from USITT, and take part in career development curriculum and networking while building lasting professional relationships. It is aimed at current students, recent graduates, people re-entering the industry, and others who have lacked access to industry resources; mentee applications for the 2027 cohort are open July 1 to September 30, 2026, and mentor applications are accepted year-round.
Eligibility
Students currently enrolled or recently graduated, individuals re-entering the industry, and others from underrepresented populations in live entertainment production.
Notes
Mentee applications for the 2027 cohort open July 1 - Sept 30, 2026. Launched 2014 in memory of Tayneshia Jefferson. Location listed is USITT HQ; conference location rotates (USITT27).
