Tofte Lake Center Residencies (Emerging Artists Program and others)

Tofte Lake Center near Ely, Minnesota hosts a set of residency programs for artists of all disciplines who want to create work in a natural setting and in community with other artists, including an Emerging Artists program, a Curated Artist Residency for local and national artists, a Family Artist Residency for Minnesota parent-artists, an Artist Educators residency, a BIPOC artist residency and an Art of Fire forest-stewardship residency. Lodging is provided and residencies run roughly a week to ten days in summer; the center has a long history with devised theatre makers and has hosted Playwrights' Center fellows for 13 seasons. Applications for the 2027 season open December 1, 2026 with notification by March 31, 2027.

18+; five residency programs including Emerging Artists Program for individuals or collaborative teams in any discipline; choose one program per season.

2026 residents include ensemble-driven playwrights; strong history with devised theatre makers. | 2026 residents include playwrights Dan Caffrey and Elle Thoni. 13th season hosting Playwrights' Center fellows in 2026.
