Shadows/Observers: $600/week; Fellows: $3,000-$6,000 depending on length
The SDC Foundation Professional Development Program, formerly the Observership Program, offers early-career directors and choreographers three tiers of rehearsal-based opportunities with experienced mentors: short-term Shadows, production-long Observers, and Fellows who work as part of the artistic team. Shadows and Observers receive $600 per week and Fellows $3,000-$6,000, along with mentor meetings, SDCF staff check-ins and networking; non-members who complete the program can join SDC as Associate Members with initiation fees and first-year dues waived. Applications open two to three times per season via SlideRoom for a $5 fee, and named fellowships such as the Abbott and Ockrent run within these cycles.
Early-career directors and choreographers; SDC membership not required for most opportunities; students must complete program before start date. $5 application fee per cycle.
Formerly the SDCF Observership Program. Named rehearsal-based fellowships (Charles Abbott, Mike Ockrent, Kurt Weill) run within PDP cycles. Completers eligible for SDC Associate Membership with fees waived first year. Equally relevant to choreographers.
