Overview
Playwrights Foundation's Resident Playwrights Program (RPP) is a two-year residency for four up-and-coming San Francisco Bay Area playwrights. Residents receive financial investment, tailored career support from staff, an in-person retreat, monthly cohort meetings, internal and public workshops, and local and national networking opportunities. Applicants must have lived in one of nine Bay Area counties for at least a year, written at least two full-length plays, and show career momentum through a professional production or multiple development opportunities; applications open in odd years, and the current cohort runs January 2026 through December 2027.
