Overview
Puppet Lab is Open Eye Theatre's six-month developmental laboratory in Minneapolis for emerging puppet artists who have been Minnesota residents for at least a year. From October to April the cohort meets twice a month, works 20 hours with a mentor director, and each artist builds and performs an original 30-40 minute piece in a two-week festival at Open Eye. Participants receive a $2,600 honorarium, a $500 materials budget, workshops, production support and professional documentation; the program is funded by the Jerome Foundation and the 2026-27 application closes September 14, 2026.
Eligibility
Minnesota resident for at least 1 year; self-identified emerging artist with foundational puppetry skills; not a full-time student; not creating work solely for youth; former Puppet Lab artists ineligible.
