Overview
The McKnight National Residency and Commission supports an established playwright from outside Minnesota with at least two professionally produced plays to write a new play developed with the Playwrights' Center. The recipient receives a $15,000 commission and up to $12,250 in workshop funds (including travel and housing) over a July-June term, culminating in a public reading, and is not required to relocate to Minnesota. Applications require a writing sample, a project proposal for a not-yet-drafted play, and a recommendation letter; the 2026-27 deadline was December 11, 2025.
Eligibility
Nationally recognized playwrights outside Minnesota with at least two professionally produced plays; not full-time students; recent McKnight fellows in any discipline ineligible; must propose a NEW play (not already drafted).
Notes
