Overview

The Lloyd Richards New Futures Residency is a year-long SDC Foundation program for mid-career directors and choreographers interested in institutional leadership and committed to illuminating Black cultural experiences on stage. The resident artist receives a $50,000 grant, is embedded with an artistic leader at a host theatre to learn the workings of artistic direction, and is guaranteed a production or workshop at that theatre on an SDC contract within three years. Selection is a two-round process in which finalists apply jointly with a host theatre; SDC membership is not required for applicants.

Eligibility

Mid-career directors or choreographers (5+ years professional work) committed to illuminating Black cultural experiences on stage and interested in institutional leadership; SDC membership not required. Host theatre's artistic leader must be an SDC Member.

Notes

2025-26 Resident Artist: choreographer Dominic Moore-Dunson at the Wilma Theater. Two-round process; finalists apply jointly with a host theatre.
