The Hermitage Artist Retreat on Manasota Key, Florida offers multi-week residencies to accomplished artists in theater, music, visual art, literature and other disciplines, selected by a national Curatorial Council rather than by open application. Its theater-focused honors include the Hermitage Greenfield Prize (a rotating-discipline commission) and the Hermitage Major Theater Award, an annual $35,000 commission plus residency for a playwright or theater artist, whose recipients include Anne Washburn, Naomi Iizuka and Madeleine George. Campus recovery from the 2024 hurricanes means 2026 programs are being announced on shorter notice than usual.
