The Herb Alpert Award in the Arts is an unrestricted $75,000 prize given annually to risk-taking mid-career artists in five fields: dance, film/video, music, theatre and visual arts. Administered by California Institute of the Arts since 1994 and funded by the Herb Alpert Foundation, the award is made through a confidential nomination and panel process rather than an open application. Recent theatre recipients include Robin Frohardt, Cannupa Hanska Luger and David Thomson.
Nomination only; risk-taking mid-career artists in dance, film/video, music, theatre, visual arts. Theatre category has recognized directors, devisers, puppeteers, performance-makers.
