Unpaid (no fees or royalties taken; no housing or travel provided)
NAMT's Festival of New Musicals presents eight new musicals each October in short presentations for an audience of more than 800 industry professionals, with the aim of connecting writers to producers who can advance their shows. Writers of any background may submit complete, unlicensed musicals free of charge (a late fee applies after the early deadline); submissions are evaluated anonymously through a three-round committee process. Selected writers receive an honorarium, full NAMT production support, and ongoing alumni resources, and NAMT takes no royalties or fees.
Writers must be available in person in NYC for rehearsals and presentations; writers may not direct, music direct, or perform; musical must be ready for readings/workshops/productions.
2026 Festival: Oct 22-23 at New World Stages; 8 musicals chosen from 518 submissions. Primary value is exposure to NAMT member producers.
