Clubbed Thumb's New Play Directing Fellowship pairs three early-career directors with playwrights (drawn from its Early-Career Writers' Group) to develop newly commissioned plays with a company of emerging actors over several months. The fellows are mentored by established directors (Anne Kauffman and Tara Ahmadinejad for 2025-26) and present their work publicly at Clubbed Thumb's Winterworks festival in January. The program has run annually since 2015-16.
New play directors with at least three years of work outside an educational setting; must be in NYC September-January. Three fellows selected annually; each paired with a commissioned playwright.
