Overview

The Charlie Blackwell Scholarships, named for the pioneering Broadway stage manager, award five scholarships annually to stage managers of color to attend the Broadway Stage Management Symposium with registration fees waived. Each scholarship is adjudicated by a Broadway stage manager of color (Narda E. Alcorn, Lisa Dawn Cave, Beverly Jenkins, Kenneth J. McGee and Cody Renard Richard) with distinct criteria such as being a Black student, an HBCU student or alum, or a career changer, and recipients get a one-on-one meeting with their adjudicator. Travel and housing are not included; the 2026 application deadline was February 28.

Eligibility

Stage managers of color (students through working professionals); named for Broadway stage manager Charlie Blackwell.

Notes

2026 recipients announced April 2026. Symposium also offers online participation. Scholarship covers registration only, not travel.
