Overview

Black Theatre Coalition (BTC), now operating as Building The Change, runs paid fellowship and apprenticeship programs that place emerging, mid-career and career-changing Black and diverse professionals alongside Broadway and theatre industry leaders in creative, producing, executive and administrative areas. The original 2021 fellowship offered a $50,000 salary across 20 offstage categories including set, lighting, costume and sound design and stage management; the program has since been restructured as an apprenticeship embedding participants on Broadway productions, with the spring 2026 cycle closed and 2027 details forthcoming. Applications are handled through the BTC SurveyMonkey Apply portal.

Eligibility

Black early-career theatre professionals; one-year placements with Broadway creatives or professional offices across offstage disciplines including set, lighting, costume, sound, video, and wig/hair design and stage management; two fellows per category at launch.
