August Wilson Fellowship in Theatrical Production, Design, and Theatre Technology

The August Wilson Fellowship in Theatrical Production, Design, and Theatre Technology, created by the College of Fellows of the American Theatre with the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, gives one student of color a summer residency (late May to mid-August) at the O'Neill in Waterford, Connecticut. The fellow is integrated into the O'Neill's professional and summer staff across its four summer conferences, working with resident and guest designers in their specialization (lighting, sound, scenic, technical direction, production or stage management). The fellowship covers travel, housing, all meals, and a $300 weekly stipend, and is open to students at accredited U.S. universities and training programs, with HBCU candidates especially encouraged.

Students of color from accredited US universities or training programs pursuing careers in production, design, or technical theatre; self-nominations accepted; HBCU candidates especially encouraged.

2026 was the second year; applications opened Nov 1, 2025 and closed Feb 15, 2026. Fellow is embedded with O'Neill summer staff across its four conferences. Aimed at current students rather than working professionals.
