Alan Schneider Director Award

The Alan Schneider Director Award, administered by Theatre Communications Group, recognizes exceptionally talented mid-career freelance directors whose work is well established in a particular U.S. region but who are not yet widely known nationally. Recipients are chosen by nomination and highlighted at the TCG National Conference; past winners include Anne Kauffman, Liesl Tommy, May Adrales and, most recently, Seema Sueko (2022). TCG's page states applications are not currently being accepted and future funding cycles have not been announced.

Nomination only, by artistic leaders of TCG member theatres; mid-career freelance directors known regionally but not yet nationally.

Finalists highlighted at TCG National Conference. TCG's Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowships and Rising Leaders of Color are not director-specific.
