No accompanist provided March 12. For that day, prepare a contemporary or modern theatre monologue, 2 minutes or less. Accompanist provided March 13 only.For that day, prepare EITHER a brief, traditional musical theatre song showing range OR a brief monologue OR 16 bars and a 1-minute monologue.

Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

All dates are in 2012. All roles are available unless otherwise specified. For pre-cast roles, auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST by Oscar Wilde. Dir: David Hyde Pierce. 1st reh: 6/4. Runs 6/26-7/14.

A family of “Guys and Dolls”-style gangsters moves to “Downtown Abbey”-style London in order to escape certain, shall we say, entanglements?

John (Jack) Worthing, J. P.:

30s. Wry and suave. Mischievously leading a double life (something to which he’s well accustomed). In love with Gwendolen, and hoping to marry into “the family”. Nimble and edgy, dry and funny.

Rev. Canon Chasuble, D. D.:

30s–50s. Learned British man of the cloth. Enamored with Miss Prism. Verbose and affable; can talk up a purple-prose storm.

Merriman:

40s–60s. British butler, grappling with an un-traditional employment situation as best he can.

Lady Bracknell:

Late 50s–60s. A formidable female Don Corleone. Commands respect the minute she walks into a room, and can be a battle-axe when the occasion calls for it. Has zeal. Wants the best for her daughter.

Hon. Gwendolen Fairfax:

20s–early 30s. Algernon’s cousin. A Real Housewife of New Jersey in training. “Refined” (more like pretentious). Stunningly beautiful (and knows it). A wee bit fickle, and desperately romantic at heart.

Cecily Cardew:

20s. Jack’s ward. A dash of Meadow Soprano. Gregarious and eager, if not equally bright.

Miss Prism:

40s–50s. Cecily’s governess. A native New Yorker at heart. Attempts to uphold rigid values, and advocates for education (even if many of the subjects fly over her head). Swoons for Rev. Chasuble.

Algernon Moncrieff:

CAST. 30s. A mischief maker, dry, authoritative, sexy and nimble.

Lane:

CAST. Manservant to Algernon. Low-on-the-totem-pole gumba, adept at staying under the radar.

Frank Whitaker:

Mid 30s - 40. All American. Handsome. Successful businessman. Married to Cathy. Harboring a dark secret. Actor must have a superb, high baritone voice (low E to high A) and the ability to sing in various styles.

Sybil:

African American, mid 30s. In most ways, Raymond’s female counterpart. Must be a good singer (alto with mix).

Janice Whitaker:

Seeking actress 8 years old or slightly older, but able to play younger. Janice is Cathy and Frank’s daughter. Spunky little American girl of the late 1950s. Must sing very well.

David Whitaker:

About 11. Cathy and Frank’s son. Bicycle-riding, dungarees-wearing American early adolescent. Perfectly period. Must sing well.

Eleanor Fine:

Late 30s-45. Cathy’s best friend. Worldly. Sophisticated and no-nonsense. Has money instead of children. Sharp wit. Excellent singer (alto with mix).

Stan Fine:

Late 30s - mid 40s. Eleanor’s husband. Successful suburban businessman with a 1950s sensibility. Also plays other characters. Must be an excellent singer (baritone).

Morris Farnsworth:

Late 50s - mid 60s. Cathy’s eccentric uncle. Actor plays additional roles. Must be excellent singer.

Dick Dawson:

Mid 30s - mid 40s. Suave, charming. Actor also plays other roles, including a vocalist with a band. Must be excellent singer.

Mrs. Leacock:

60s - 70. Reporter and local Society editor. Actress plays additional roles. Must be strong, legit singer.

Mona Lauder:

Mid 40s - 60. Town gossip. Actress plays additional roles. Must be excellent singer (belt).

Doreen:

30s - 40. Connecticut suburban homemaker. Friend of Cathy. Ditzy. Actress plays additional roles. Must be excellent singer with belt/mix.

Nancy:

30s - 40. Connecticut suburban homemaker. Friend of Cathy. Actress plays additional roles. Must be excellent singer with belt/mix.

Cathy Whitaker:

CAST. Mid 30s. Seemingly perfect American housewife; beautiful, poised, and gracious––but with a complicated inner life. Must have glorious, legit soprano (to F#) as well as earthier lower register (to G below middle C); vocally demanding role.

Raymond Degan:

CAST. African American, mid 30s - 40. Handsome. Compassionate. Implicitly decent, with gravitas––but also lightness. Must sing exceptionally well. High baritone to Ab.

A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY by Ivan Turgenev. Translation: Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. Dir: R. Nelson. 1st reh: 7/10. Scheduled run: 8/1-19.

Arkady Sergeich Islaev:

36. Wealthy landowner. Generous. Willing to look the other way; wants to avoid problems. Loves his wife. Attractive.

Natalya Petrovna:

29. Islaev’s wife. Thought she was happy; suddenly she’s not, and doesn’t know why. Normal, contented married woman with a child, who suddenly doesn’t know what is happening to her.

Vera Alexandrovna:

17. Their ward. Innocent; still half a child, but on the cusp, and aware that the world is changing for her. Smart. Attractive.

Anna Semyonovna Islaeva:

58. Islaev’s mother. Loves her son; protective, always an eye out for him.

Lizaveta Bogdanovna:

37. Anna Semyonovna’s companion. Grew up poor. Practical. Perfect match for the Doctor.

Alexi Nikolaevich Belvaev:

21. Student. Kolya’s Russian teacher. Open, innocent, can’t believe what happens to him. Thinks he is older than he is.

Afanasy Ivanovich Bolshintsov:

48. Neighbor. Good, decent man. Scared of women.

Matvei:

40. Servant. Content with his station in life.

Mikhail Alexandrovich Rakitin:

CAST. 30. Friend of the house. In love with a woman who can’t love him. He knows this, he accepts this, he lives with this pain.

Ignaty Iliich Shpigelsky:

CAST. 40. Doctor. Cynical, wise, bitter and practical. Very smart, and tries to hide his real thoughts.

THE BLUE DEEP by Lucy Boyle. Dir: Bob Balaban. 1st reh: 6/4. Scheduled run: 6/27-7/8.

Lila Miller:

Mid 20s. Grace’s daughter. Formerly confident blogger/writer; has been thrown off her axis by the death of her father. Comes home hoping for some comfort, and instead finds major conflict with her mother. Imaginative, funny, vulnerable.

Jaime:

Man, mid - late 20s. Gardener/landscape specialist and Yale School of Forestry master's student. Magnetic. Of the earth. Instantly throws Lila off her game with his grounded, secure hotness, but is actually an undercover nerd--an eco-warrior idealist who can verge on self-righteous at times.

Roberta Binder-Banks:

English, 60s. Grace's good friend, an eccentric rock n’ roll journalist. Has smoked more cigarettes than the Marlboro Man, and is still in the game in her 60s, although she'd never admit to her age.

Charlie Banks:

60s. Roberta’s husband. Bill Miller's best friend. Warm, comfortable and comforting to Lila, he sees through Grace's façade and tries to help her loosen up a bit.

Grace Miller:

CAST. Mid 60s. Gallery owner. Obsessed with Pilates and health food since the death of her husband, Bill, a year ago. Proud, regal, knows everything and is always right.

LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS by Neil Simon. Dir: Jessica Stone. 1st reh: 6/19. Scheduled run 7/11-22.

Elaine Navazio:

Late 30s - late 50s. Dry, quick-witted, no nonsense. Enjoys sex and makes no apologies for her philandering.

Bobbi Michele:

Woman, mid 20s - mid 30s. Failed nightclub singer still looking to make it big. Sweet, lost and has a few screws loose.

Jeanette Fisher:

Late 30s - mid 40s. Barney's wife's best friend. Depressed over her husband's infidelity, and looking to get back at him with Barney. Little does she know that the possible tryst will only cement her despair over the current sexual mores of the time.

Barney Cashman:

CAST. 47. Married father. Runs a fish restaurant in Great Neck. Happily married, but looking to see if there's something more to life than just a nice existence.

WHADDABLOODCLOT by Katori Hall. Dir TBD. 1st reh: 7/17. Scheduled run: 8/8-19.

Eden Higgenbotham lives a cushy Upper-East-Side life surrounded by equally affluent, vain and snobbish friends. When a sudden stroke causes her to contract the very rare Foreign Accent Syndrome, which makes her speak uncontrollably with a Jamaican accent, she’s forced to embrace a dramatically altered identity.

Eden Higgenbotham (Female 30s-40s); A svelte Caucasian Upper East Side Socialite who speaks uncontrollably with a Jamaican accent after suffering a stroke. Delicate in appearance, but tough as nails to deal with. She is the center of the play and must be extremely funny as her devilish exterior dissolves. Accents required: WASP and Jamaican

Chance Beasely/Sales Clerk/Blind Man/Chase/Chuck/Clarence (Male 30s) One of Eden’s Caucasian socialite friends, also plays a Chanel store sales clerk, and a blind homeless man, among other roles.
