DIRECTOR BIO: Michael Arabian is excited to be back directing at the Taper, where he helmed Beckett's Krapp's Last Tape, The Sandbox by Edward Albee and A Slight Ache (originally written for radio) by Harold Pinter. Michael has directed and produced numerous World, West Coast, Los Angeles and New York premieres by such writers as Donald Margulies, Franz Xavier Kroetz, A.R. Gurney, Frank Wedekind and Arthur Miller. His site-specific theatre company, Theatre InSite, formed a partnership with CBS Studios in Studio City (a first for LA theatre) to produce inventive large-scale productions and live TV pilot presentations (including the original presentation of the NBC hit, 3rd Rock From the Sun) on their backlot and sound stages. His updated Romeo & Juliet had audiences following scenes and car chases through the backlot's suburban streets, and The Trojan Women (starring Mariette Hartley) was set during the Gulf War and staged at the old Gilligan's Island Lagoon in 400,000 gallons of water with an amphibious Humvee from the Marine Corps. His shows have garnered a total of 56 awards (including LA Weekly Awards for best director and production) and numerous critic's choices. He has directed one feature film.
