BREAKDOWN
CRONE CREED
SYNOPSIS: Crone Creed is a time-traveling, supernatural battle between good and evil. A trio of siblings discover they have powers that allow them to control others and can transport through time. Yanni, the eldest and only son, uses his power to prop up the Church and torture others for his own personal gain. Middle sister, Vita, learns of her powers and joins the Crone’s Creed, a vow to help humanity for good. Through this, she must stop Yanni in order to save their younger sister and humanity. This production will involve large scale spectacle through projection, moving set pieces, and wearable puppetry.
Note: No accent/dialect. Please use your natural speech.
SEEKING:
VITA: Lead, Female, 18–30, Any Ethnicity. A fiercely intelligent young woman reborn across centuries into a mystical lineage known as the Crones. Beginning as a powerless peasant daughter trapped in medieval oppression, Vita evolves into a spiritually powerful warrior tasked with confronting her corrupted brother. She carries deep trauma, moral conviction, empathy, and rage beneath a controlled exterior. Character Traits: Resilient, compassionate, emotionally intense, rebellious, morally driven. Performance Notes: Strong dramatic range, emotional vulnerability, commanding stage presence, and physicality. Carries the emotional spine of the play and transitions convincingly from frightened survivor to mythic leader. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required. Comparable Energy: Joan of Arc meets Sarah Connor.
YANNI: Lead Antagonist, Male, 25–40, Any Ethnicity. Vita’s older brother. Once insecure and desperate for control, he becomes seduced by mystical power and institutional authority. Over centuries he transforms into a charismatic tyrant who weaponizes religion, fear, and psychological domination. Character Traits: Intelligent, manipulative, volatile, charismatic, deeply wounded beneath cruelty. Performance Notes: Balances menace with emotional complexity. Yanni should feel terrifying because his pain and ideology make sense to him. Requires commanding voice and psychological intensity. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required. Comparable Energy: Macbeth crossed with a cult leader. Kylo Ren.
TESSCA: Supporting Lead, Female, 18–30, Any Ethnicity. The youngest sibling. Taken as a child during the family massacre and psychologically shaped by Yanni for centuries. Beneath her quiet demeanor lies immense untapped power and emotional damage. Initially mysterious, she ultimately becomes one of the story’s most important figures. Character Traits: Observant, fractured, emotionally guarded, slyly humorous, powerful. Performance Notes: Transitions from seemingly meek and uncertain to startlingly confident and dangerous. Requires subtle emotional layering and strong presence in later scenes. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required.
DARA: Supporting, Female, 40–70, Any Ethnicity. An experienced Crone who awakened the siblings’ powers long ago, inadvertently setting tragedy into motion. Acts as Vita’s mentor while carrying deep guilt over her past mistakes. Character Traits: Wise, pragmatic, emotionally burdened, strategic, compassionate but hardened. Performance Notes: Requires gravitas and warmth. Should feel ancient without becoming cliché. Dara is simultaneously teacher, survivor, and flawed architect of the story’s conflict. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
ROYA: Supporting, Female, 50–80, Any Ethnicity. One of the oldest surviving Crones. Calm, analytical, and spiritually powerful. Roya represents the philosophy and history of the Crone Creed itself. Doubles in the ensemble for Act 3. Character Traits: Mysterious, disciplined, wise, emotionally restrained, quietly intimidating. Performance Notes: Projects immense inner power with minimal movement. Roya functions almost like an oracle figure. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
WILEY: Supporting Lead, Male, 25–45, Any Ethnicity. A grieving frontier laborer whose wife was taken by Yanni’s regime. Initially broken by fear and helplessness, Wiley slowly rediscovers courage through Vita’s influence. Doubles as small roles throughout. Character Traits: Earnest, traumatized, loyal, emotionally sincere, determined. Performance Notes: Requires emotional authenticity and grounded humanity. Wiley serves as the audience’s connection to the suffering town and provides emotional balance against the mythic elements. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
REIKA: Supporting, Female, 35–55, Any Ethnicity. Mother of Vita, Yanni, and Tessca. A former Crone who abandoned power to live a normal life and protect her children. Strong-willed and fiercely protective. Doubles as small roles throughout. Character Traits: Loving, defiant, spiritually intuitive, courageous. Performance Notes: Though her stage time is limited, Reika’s presence echoes throughout the play. Establishes emotional stakes quickly and powerfully. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
DALF: Supporting, Male, 40–60, Any Ethnicity. The father of the family. A fearful, deeply religious peasant crushed by poverty and institutional control. Torn between protecting his family and surrendering to authority. Doubles as small roles throughout. Character Traits: Weak-willed, conflicted, frightened, tragic. Performance Notes: Avoid portraying Dalf as merely pathetic. He represents ordinary people psychologically broken by oppressive systems. Involves light stage combat, experience is nice but not required. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
THE NOBLE: Supporting, Male, 35–65, White Presenting. A representative of aristocratic brutality in the medieval timeline. Helps orchestrate the destruction of Vita’s family and the abduction of Tessca. Doubles as small roles throughout. Character Traits: Predatory, entitled, sadistic. Performance Notes: Short but impactful role. Must establish danger immediately. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
THE SUPERVISOR: Supporting, Male, 35–60, Any Ethnicity. A cruel plantation overseer who maintains order through intimidation, humiliation, violence, and sexual coercion. The Supervisor is not a mastermind; he is the face of systemic oppression and the type of man who thrives when given power over vulnerable people. He believes the workers are property and takes pleasure in reminding them of it. Despite his confidence, he is ultimately a coward who relies on fear, weapons, and authority rather than true strength. Doubles as small roles throughout. Personality: Sadistic, Arrogant, Predatory, Opportunistic, Cowardly beneath the bravado; Represents institutional abuse rather than individual genius. Performance Notes: Capable of portraying menace without becoming cartoonish. The Supervisor should feel disturbingly believable—a man who has normalized cruelty.
Comfortable with emotionally intense material involving intimidation, threats, and abuse of power. Please note any puppetry experience (not required).
